When I decided to give network marketing a go, I already owned several successful businesses and had a lot of experience setting up campaigns, promoting and selling my services, and just doing the day-to-day work it takes to run a business. In my opinion, network marketing has been very similar to my other businesses, and I have been able to use so much of my knowledge and previous experience as I pour myself into this new opportunity!
Some people have the perception that network marketing is just a party here and there and an occasional pitch to your Facebook friends to buy your products and that’s it. It is so much more than that (if you do it right). Your success with your new business is going to greatly depend on how seriously you take it and how much work you put into it. That doesn’t mean you have to give up all your free time, but it does mean following a few sensible strategies.
Four Tried and True Network Marketing Tips For Beginners
Deciding to get involved in network marketing is exciting and there are a lot of opportunities ahead of you. There’s lots of great advice out there for business owners, but these are the four tips I believe can really help take your business to the next level.
Follow Your Passions
There are a lot of network marketing companies out there, and chances are, at some point someone has approached you about joining one (or more) of them. I see so many people agree to join a company because they need the income or because they don’t know how to politely say they’re not interested. These businesses ultimately fail because there’s no passion and no real emotional connection to the products.
You want to choose a niche you already are head over heels in love with. Whether you love makeup or skincare or healthy living, there’s something out there that fits you. Think about it. If you love the industry, you’re probably already talking about it online and surrounding yourself with people who have the same passion. Selling your products will be a natural progression, and you’ll be able to speak to everything you sell with much more authority and confidence and LOVE… and your sales will reflect that.
Know the Products Inside and Out
To sell well, you have to know the products intimately. For example, how do they work, why do they work, what’s the background on the product, who was it created by (and for)? Does the product have any alternative uses that you can sell to a different audience?
People buy things because they’re trying to solve some problem in their lives. If you spend time really learning the products you sell and you’re able to tell people how these products can help make their lives better, you’re going to do great!
Expand Your Network
To be successful, you absolutely must branch out beyond friends and family. It’s easy to start out there, but it will soon become a tapped market and you’ll need to move on. Not to mention, you can easily put people off by trying to sell them the same products over and over. Learn how social media marketing works, study the best practices, and show up consistently.
Build an audience of people that are hungry to buy what you’re selling! This is where network marketing and traditional marketing overlap. There’s nothing in these strategies that you can’t use to be successful as a network marketer… and you should be trying everything you can to see what works!
You Need Boundaries
There’s a good chance you’re working a full time job or caring for your family full time, which means you’re running your network marketing business in the “in between moments” like during naptime, after the kids go to bed, and on the weekends. This can very quickly wear on you and it can feel like you have no time to yourself.
You absolutely need to set boundaries or you’re going to get burned out before you ever discover your true potential. What does this look like? Maybe you limit yourself to spending one weeknight and one weekend morning on your business. Sure, there will be exceptions, but you need to schedule in time where you’re not in “business mode” so you can enjoy hobbies, self care, and of course, your loved ones without your mind being elsewhere.
Starting your network marketing business off on the right foot is so important if you want to achieve big dreams and make an income that you can use to make your life better.
