Network marketing has a unique challenge to overcome compared to other kinds of entrepreneurship. When you start your own company, you just have to stand out from people offering a similar product or service. In network marketing, you have to stand out from people offering the exact same products that you’re selling.
This can be a daunting thought for network marketers that are just starting out. That’s why so many rely heavily on their friends and family for sales. If you have people in your life that are excited about what you’re selling, that’s fantastic! However, your pool of potential customers could be so much bigger if you have a unique way to position yourself in the market.
Being Like Everyone Else Is Boring
When you set up your marketing like everyone else, you’re putting yourself in a box. Break out of it and show the real you! It’s been said that people buy from people and not companies. Sure, you’re selling something great, but the thing that’s going to draw people to you is your personality and unique style.
I’m going to give you a few tips to start thinking about how you can set yourself apart from the crowd and really make a name for yourself in the world of network marketing.
Tip #1 – Develop a Signature Style
So much of the work we do is online these days. When you set up your social media feeds for your brand, you have a huge opportunity to create a signature style that sets you apart from other people. Choose a few colors and a signature font and use them exclusively in the graphics you create for your brand. Maybe there’s an emoji you use all the time that really reflects your style and ties in the products you sell. Collect items you see in the dollar section at the craft store that have something to do with you and your products and use them in flat lays. Just have fun with it and stay consistent, and soon, you’ll start to be known for it by your followers!
Tip #2 – Show Up Consistently
One thing that isn’t going anywhere is video. In fact, it’s becoming more and more popular everyday and network marketers that aren’t embracing it are probably losing some sales to their competitors. It can be intimidating to turn that camera around and talk to your followers in an Instagram story or on Facebook Live, but every time you do it, you’ll feel more comfortable.
Make an effort to share on Instagram Stories every day, even if it’s just a quick behind-the-scenes peek at what you’re working on. People are dying to connect with you… and not just the perfectly curated version of you that’s in your feed.
Tip #3 – Incorporate Your Other Passions
Yes, you’re passionate about what you do, but you are a human being with other interests and hobbies. Don’t be afraid to tie that into your brand! For example, if you sell essential oils but you’re also really into painting, you could share a piece you did that’s inspired by an oil blend. If you sell skincare products, and you love beauty and makeup, you could do “Get Ready With Me” style videos and show people how use use the products as part of a makeup routine.
Even if you don’t automatically think your interests have anything to do with the products you sell, there’s almost always a way to tie them together. Really, the more unique it is, the better since it will help you be more memorable to your followers, and they’ll be much more likely to share your social media handle with their own friends and followers.
At the End of the Day, Just Be You
Standing out from the competition isn’t about antics or clickbait, it’s about being authentically you and sharing your heart with your followers. There’s a reason we’re always drawn to people that are doing what they love. Those people are magnetic and inspiring. Start making a list of the things that make you different, then figure out how you’re going to share those things with the world (or at the very least, your social media followers).
