One of the things people love most about network marketing is the flexibility. You get the freedom of deciding how much time you can or want to put into the business. You also decide which specific goals you want to shoot for, and what strategies you want to use to get there.
Most people that get involved with network marketing are doing it on top of a full time job. Other people have part time jobs, school, parenting responsibilities, or another passion or obligation. This means limited time to dedicate to growing a business. Network marketing is so perfect for people with busy schedules. It all comes down to time management and focus!
We’re big fans of time management tools to reach our goals and free up our already jam-packed schedules. Here are three of our favorite time management hacks that will become your BFF as you grow your own successful business.
This technique was created by Francesco Cirillo in the 1980’s and basically, it’s a way to harness the power of your attention span when it’s at its prime. First, you come up with a task you’d like to do, for example, write a blog post, work on your website, or create some graphics for your social media pages. You set your timer for 25 minutes and you work until the timer goes off. Then, you take a 5 minute break. Once the 5 minutes is up, you work for another 25 minutes. You repeat this four times, and after your fourth 25 minute period of work, you take a longer break, say 15 minutes rather than 5.
The idea behind this technique is that when you have a shorter period of time to dedicate to one specific task, you’re going to be much less likely to stop and check your phone, get up for a snack, or find another way to get distracted. It’s a pretty basic concept, but you’d be amazed at what you can get done in 25 minutes when you’re super focused. I promise!
Curious about the weird name? If you know Italian, you know “pomodoro” means tomato. When Cirillo first developed this technique, he was using a kitchen timer shaped like a tomato. You don’t need a tomato timer to make this work for you. In fact, there’s lots of smartphone apps that are based on this technique, and there’s even some handy web-based ones like Focus Booster that might just change the way you work!
Okay, I know I am not the only person guilty of “task hopping” way more than I should. It happens so fast sometimes you don’t even realize you did it. Unfortunately, it feels like our attention spans are getting shorter by the day. We’re a product of our society and these days, there’s so much coming at you it’s hard to keep your head down and just do the work.
Batch working is exactly what it sounds like… working in batches. So, let’s say you have a goal to write four blog posts for the month. You may want to take a four hour block of time one afternoon and dedicate it solely to writing all of your blog posts, rather than sitting down four different times during the month for this one task.
When you switch between tasks, there’s always a bit of time lost. You have to reacquaint yourself and try to pick up where you left off. Your mind is also much more likely to “wander” as you’re bouncing between items on your to do list. You’ll feel so great knowing you’re done with one of your major tasks for the entire month! Can you say freedom? Why not give it a try and see what happens?
Pareto’s Principle also goes by the “80/20 rule” and essentially, it is the belief that 80 percent of your results are coming from 20 percent of the work you do. Stop and think about what tasks really bring you results in network marketing, then prioritize those tasks. You might find that you can spend much less time doing actual work and still get the same results. Not only that, you’ll have more time to live your life and be able to come at your goals from a place of rest rather than a place of exhaustion.
So often, we feel like we have to work day and night to reach the network marketing goals that we’ve set. Stop the hustle! Remember, your worth and your success has nothing to do with the amount of hours you’re working. We should all strive for balance, which means approaching our goals strategically. Using these time management techniques is a great way to get more results than you dreamed possible in less time than you imagined yourself working. That’s a major win-win!
